Lactation Consultations

Breast feeding appointment during pregnancy

Prenatal

Connecting with a lactation consultant prior to delivery is crucial for preparing for a smooth breastfeeding experience. Having this support in place early on can increase your confidence, reduce stress, and promote a positive breastfeeding journey for both you and your baby. Early guidance can also help identify any potential issues, such as milk supply concerns, before they become bigger obstacles.

Postpartum

Once you have delivered, it is wise to schedule a lactation consultation within the first week of your baby’s life. This guidance will keep you on track, ensure that your baby is gaining weight appropriately, and avoid problems before they arise.

Weight Check

Most babies do not see their pediatrician between two weeks and two months of age. Scheduling a weight check with lactation during this period provides reassurance and prevents any issues from getting out of hand. Infant weight checks are also available at any point during the breastfeeding journey.

Milestones

Milestone lactation appointments serve to track and support key stages during the breastfeeding journey. These check-ins typically occur at critical points, such as when baby is a few weeks old, around the 6-week mark, transitioning back to work, starting solid foods, teething, or even weaning!

“Rachel was so helpful when my daughter suddenly wasn't gaining any weight. She taught me how to breast feed without a nipple shield since I was using one for two months since my daughter was born. She constantly checked in with me and we had multiple visits. She's so kind and so knowledgeable and I recommend her to all my la leche league friends and any one who has difficulties with breast feeding!”
